Romance

We have been asked this week to think about “Romance” for our header challenge, chosen by Gailsman.

Now when I think about romance I can’t but think about my lovely wife Mel. So todays blog post is dedicated to her.

I must admit I’m a bit of an old romantic at heart and I do like to surprise her with little gestures of flowers or presents for no reason other than to say, I love you!

One of the presents was one I made myself, a pair of entwined hearts whittled out of a single peace of oak; as I had known since I had first met her that we were meant to be together…

entwined hearts carving   Shakespeare says it better than I can:

“Hear my soul speak. Of the very instant that I saw you, Did my heart fly at your service” (Tempest)

As I said I also like to give her flowers, sometimes big bunches of them, but sometimes just simple little rose buds, just to say, I love you.

My love is like a red, red rose

That’s newly sprung in June :

My love is like the melody

That’s sweetly played in tune. (Robert Burns)

Just today I finished another piece of carving I had been working on for a while. The word “Love”.

love-2

My wife had already seen it in its not quite finished state but today I surprised her and finished it off and set it out on her desk surrounded by roses’ and petals as you can see in the header for her to find when she came in.  I will let you decide if that is romantic or not.

Don’t forget to check out the other romantics by following their links in my right hand menu bar under the Header Challenge title.

As for being romantic my philosophy is much like Voltaire's,

“Love is a canvas furnished by Nature and embroidered by imagination”.

So use your imagination and tell that someone special how you feel.

As for my someone special, “Jeg elsker dig”.
